SENIOR DATA ENGINEER

LOCATION: NEW YORK CITY |  REPORTS TO:  Chief Data Scientist

CLIENT/ROLE OVERVIEW: Headquartered in NYC, our client is a PROFITABLE, multi-award winning, pre-IPO company that has one of the largest data science teams in AdTech and will grow to over 400 employees by year end. Utilizing access to billions of low latency transactions daily, every product the company develops is data science drivenThey are passionate about maintaining an open and collaborative environment, where team members bring their own unique style of thinking and tools to the table.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a member of the Data Science team you will be solving complex problems across a wide range of areas related to causality, marketing attribution, ad viewability, online fraud detection, video and contextual classification, all while helping us build and scale the next generation of our data science research and development platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Senior Data Engineer within the Data Science team you will:

*Be part of a team responsible for architecting, planning, and delivery of engineering components

*Be a key partner to data scientists on solving technical challenges

*Architect and build data pipelines and data stores specialized for data science needs

*Standardize and build tools for use across the data science team

*Build, automate and deploy specialized research environments

*Design and implement systems for large-scale data analysis and machine learning

*Optimize code and design architecture to streamline data science processes

*Partner with engineering teams on deployments of data science driven solutions

Required Qualifications:

*3+ years of experience in software engineering

*Good interpersonal and communication skills

*Strong hands-on Java/Scala programming skills with a deep knowledge of internals (GC, JVM, Concurrency)

*Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, scalability and various tradeoffs in a Big Data setting

*Understanding of object oriented programming concepts and design patterns

*Hands-on experience writing Hadoop Map-Reduce jobs and data query tools(e.g., Hive, Pig)

*Solid knowledge of database concepts, SQL, schema design and query optimization techniques

*Understanding of full software development life cycle, agile development and continuous integration

*Expertise with version control systems (git) and continuous integration (Jenkins)

*Experience working in Unix/Linux environment and an ability to troubleshoot both hardware and application issues

Preferred Qualifications:

*A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science), Graduate is a plus

*Digital advertising or web technology experience

*Experience with high performance key-value stores

*Demonstrated ability to build complex pipelines using automated workflows (luigi, airflow, oozie)

*Knowledge of MPP databases (e.g., RedShift, Netezza, Vertica, Greenplum) for complex data assembly and transformation would be a plus

*Expertise working with public cloud deployments (AWS, Google CE or other)

*Experience with parallel analytics platforms (e.g., Spark, H2O)

*Experience implementing machine learning algorithms

*Expertise in programming with Python or Scala

*Familiarity with one or more (R, Python ML libraries, Spark MLlib, or Matlab)

COMPENSATION

    Up to $170K Base (BOE) +  Bonus + Excellent Benefits 

 *Must be able to work in the U.S. without a work visa. (no sponsorship at this time).
