Online Course |  “Understanding Data Science” with Doug Rose (via Lynda)

By Chris McCabe

Last weekend I took the Lynda course “Understanding Data Science ” with Doug Rose.  The class is designed for those that do not intend to be Data Scientists but want to become familiar with the process and terminology.  The class has a running time of 1 hour and 16 minutes and covers includes the following topics.

  • What is data science?
  • Making connections with relational databases
  • Importing data into warehouses
  • Recognizing different data types
  • Applying statistical analysis

One of the underutilized features of  some public libraries is their online resource section.  Many libraries provide the ability to get free Lynda access, which I have recently done. If you don’t have the ability to get the library access LinkedIn provides a free 10 day trial, which then would lead to the basic membership from $19.99 a month or the premium membership from $29.99 a month.
